We love music!
We are Hillfoot Harmony chorus, a group of female A Capella singers based in Dollar, near Stirling in central Scotland. We strive for musical excellence in the performance of barbershop singing. We are also great friends and laugh with each other. We are a member of Sweet Adelines International, a global musical organisation that supports us in perfecting the art of four-part barbershop singing. We sing in the local and surrounding communities, at charity events, and to support local groups. Our ages range from mums with young children up to ladies with grandchildren, with many diverse jobs and some retirees. “These are the friends I always wanted and the sisters I never had“.
“And why would I not adore Barbershop singing?”
Catherine loved music from an early age, and studies included piano, performance and singing while at school. Barbershop took a strong hold, with all the aspects of close harmony and musical education. As well as singing with the chorus, Catherine has sung baritone with various quartets including the medal winning ‘Steppin Forth’ quartet.
When Catherine moved from Edinburgh to Dollar in 2004 she decided to form a new chorus, There are still 7 of the original 12 members attending weekly rehearsals and hitting the contest stage.
As concerts and competition came around, we agreed on the name "Hillfoot Harmony", which reflects the beautiful place where we are so lucky to live. Catherine has continued to attend many educational events, and always seeks ways to learn the directing skills needed to lead our wonderful chorus. She considers her position as musical director to be a wonderful privilege, and enjoys helping to provide the platform upon which our members can share their passion for singing and performance.
“There is a vast amount of talent in this chorus. We have superb singing ability, choreography ideas, management strengths, costume design and creation. It is also a great Sisterhood.”
